Dumb Areas

As a start to continuing this products development and enhancing a user friendly interface, is it too much to ask for a 'dumb area' function? What i mean by 'dumb area' is the ability to extract an area from a simple sketch of lines in any plane. Why would we want this? Because it's a pain to determine an simple area without it. E.g. When i want to take a part area of a projected elevation, at the moment i have to create a filled region in elevation tracing the building, cut and paste it from elevation into the floor plan then use it to build a floor, delete the filled region and querie the floor to obtain an area then delete the floor. When do i need to do this....only on every job for every elevation to calculate the raking resistance requirements for bracing. Does anyone else have a quicker way to do this?

A dumb area command is way up there amongst the most requested features.
Hopefully Autodesk is listening.

The lack of a quick area tool in Revit is a major hindrance. I would prefer
it to be provided in the form of something like draw a closed sketch-line
and have the area displayed in the current units. I would like these
sketch-lines to remain and be able to be locked to the model.
Please autodesk, its just a small tweak to your code.

Totally agrre. I am in the same situation as jojo as when i go to do the
bracing plans and have to work out the areas of elevations i simply export
to cad and do it there. I have found this the quickest way so far. Would
love a simple area tool..............................

i draw lines in the elevation as needed to define the bracing area and using filter command, copy the lines into an area floor plan. use area boundaries by using pick line command and attach area tags to it. must remember to manually write down the calculated area and then delete the area tag because the area will be added to area calculations for the building!

I think this hasn't been address because there is another method or way of
getting the results you are asking for. I just wish that instead of sitting
silent as people make requests ADesk would tell people why it is not being
address. The only thing more frustrating then finding out you didnt know an
aspect of the program is not getting any feedback on why your response isn't
being addressed. Even a "The demand for that isn't high enough" would be
nice to know if that's the case.

Jason,
love the way you think.....that is probably a little quicker than how i'm doing it. I'll have to start trying that way out. There still needs to be some type of area tool though. I'm actually only up the road from you....how good way the footy the other night!!!
Thanks John J

Thanks everyone else......sometimes you feel like you're the only one getting frustrated by some of these flaws. It's good (in a way) to hear others are feeling the same. It's a pity (as below) Adesk haven't thrown their 2c in.

Isn't this whole software relegated to the Dumb Area?

"Dumb Area"...is that a new feature of 2008? I'll have to investigate that.
In the meantime, what is your experience with Revit...and why did you make
the "switch"? Perhaps you just had a bad morning at the office...

In rvt 9.1, after creating the filled region, you can get the area from its property.
