Directx

I have installed DirectX SDK on my computer. However, every time I open Revit Architecture 2013 I get a message "The DirectX Software Rasterizer cannot be initialized. Please install DirectX SDK to run test properly." The program seems to run properly however.??

Hi,

This sound like it might be a problem with you graphics card and/or graphics driver.

What type of graphics card do you have and what version of the graphics driver are you using?

What OS are you using?

Hi,

One thing that I do see is that your driver is a bit old, that might be the problem.

Let's start by checking if turning off Hardware Acceleration get's rid of the error:

- Open up the Options dialog

- Select 'Graphics'

- Uncheck 'Use Hardware Acceleraton....."

- Click 'OK'

- Close Revit

-Start Revit again

Did you get the error? If not - I would guess that this is an issue with the driver. Check your system vendors site and/or Nvidia.com for updated driver.

Once installed, turn on HA again and the error will most likely not appear.

Note however that there is currently a know issue with semi-transparent materials with some Nvidia graphics card that you might run in to. We are working with NV on this issue and there will be a new driver posted (I have no ETA on the new driver)....

If you do see an issue with this - turn off HA for now until there is a new driver that fixes this issue is posted.

If you still get the error after tuning off HA and/or the new driver does not help , could you post a journal file here? (or send it to me)

Just start Revit, open a new project and close Revit again.

Grab the last Journal.####.txt (where #### is a sequential number) in:

C:\Users\[your login name]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2013\Journals

Still getting the message. I can't turn on the 3D accelerator. I get the message that I am in software emulation mode and that my video card and driver are not compatible with the program. However I am able to work in Revit 2013. Attached is the journal file

Hi,

Could you try something else?

- Browse to: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

- Download and run dxwebsetup.exe

Start Revit and try to activate HA again.

If you don't get the message,

- could you please post your last Journal-file here as well?

For other reading this post: Please do not install the DirectX SDK - it will not help and it will only install a lot of unnecessary files on your system.

Regards

Laj

The problem of the error message has been solved. However now ray tracing doesn't work well with or without HA.

I have 6 GB of RAM. This doesn't appear to be enough for Revit Architecture 2013. This is especially true when I try to use Ray Tracing. I can really only do quite simple projects. Is there a work around?
