Creating Areas

I am using Revit Architecture 2012 and I am reworking the layout of a house.  We have a couple different options we want to show but the footprint is different in each option.  You are unable to use areas in design options so I cant show the different areas this way.  Is there some other way of doing it?

Please create separate Area Schemes and separate Area Plans for each design option (make sure you set the properties right for each scheme and area plan), then you need to draw are boundaries, areas in specified view for each design option.

First time it will take some time to understand the whole process.
