I have a model and there are two floors and I need each of them to have a different material attached. I need to see the material in shade mode. I can assign the material to Floors in general, I got that far. The problem is that I need the two different floors to appear different colors. I don't even really need to assign a material.
Can anyone help? I know that I am missing something very basic here.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but I have attached an example.
All I did was duplicate a floor and then made a duplicate of the top material.
Then I altered the colour of the shading and put a pattern on each one.
Voila.
