Am I missing something in 2013?

I very recently got my upgrade to 2013, and have spent a small amount of time opening some of my previous (2012) projects in 2013. I have, what I figured to be, a very high-end computer - that I had built just last year with Revit totally in mind. I have an i7 X990 processor, 24 GB's of ram, an Nvidia GTX 580 video card, and I have a SSD harddrive.

Revit 2012 was absolutely beautiful on this machine. I was able to have the graphics accelerator on, and everything was simply seemless for speed. I could fly around in 3D frames, with the 'Realistic' setting set - and everything was great.

Enter 2013!! Suddenly, my computer is a total slug. I can't have the graphics accelerator on (as I get buggy transparencies all over of the place). Trying to move around in 3D frames is simply painful - especially if it's in 'Realistic' setting. It's like my computer's speed has been cut down to a quarter of what it was.

I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Revit 2013 - and getting myself deeper immersed in it. I want to keep pushing away from AutoCad, and getting fully into Revit. But in the limited time I've spent on 2013, I'm very upset.

So what did they do to crank this program up so heavy? Is there a way I can dial it back somehow - without having to completely re-invent the way I've used it to this point? With such a power-house computer, I would've thought I'd never have to worry about such things for a long time. But 1 year?????

Did you upgrade your Nvidia graphics drivers yet?  If not, you need to as its a known issue that the updated drivers fixes.

Hmm.....that was one of the first things I did. And it did nothing.

If i had to guess i would say you did update your graphics card driver but its also possible you did not use the "recommended" driver for the software...  worth looking into...

I've certainly thought of that. Now if I could only figure out which driver is right. I got the latest GTX 580 driver from the Nvidia driver page. And it says I'm up to date with a driver dated Feb 29, 2012.

Your link simply tells me what Video 'card' is recommended for Revit.

I'm hoping that a newer driver is released soon that will fix all of this.

hopefully you are able to find a fix for this.  you're right though- maybe we need to ask for an explanation as to why the video card drivers for revit are constantly being changed with each new release- doesnt seem to me that anything has changed as far as visually within revit - i suppose the only real change would be the fact that we now have this completely unnecessary new visual effect to do a ray-trace within our own system.  in my opinion Autodesk you need to stop trying to make Revit a complete visualization program (since in all honesty we already have all the tools)  and focus on making the program work faster and give us all the architectural drafting tools we need without limits.  just a thought.  Love where the program has been and is headed though.

The only driver that works right now is the 301.24 beta driver.

I completely agree with everything you just said. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I was able to find that driver. I'll give it a try here soon, and see how it goes. Thanks.

And we have a winner!!! The 301.24 Beta Driver appears to have corrected the issue. Thank you very much.

Okay....now back to work!! Need to make up some time!!!

if anyone reading this thread has an Nvidia 880m or 1800m card, updated drivers are in the works.  I have an 1800m... 😞
