I'll tack onto Jeff's comment even though he is the Autodesk person.
🙂
I believe Autodesk's fiscal year is April through March. Since their 2010
fiscal year started in April, when the version came out in April it got the
2010 nametag.

Now that the year is ending, I'd like to ask this question: How come we
always live with a software release that is one year ahead of the current
year? It used to happen with cars, but only during the last quarter of the
month, that you could purchase a 2010 model during the last months of 2009,
but with Autodesk, it's just in March or April that the new year's release
version is available. So during 9 months (75%) of year 'X', the software is
version 'X+1'. What is the reasoning behind this? Is it a marketing strategy
to create a feeling of "being ahead of time"?
