Adding different model categories

Is there any way to add to and manipulate the list of model categories? We need to show the client multiple solutions for details (furniture, lighting, etc.) in spaces in the architect's model and that will remain essentially unchanged across the options. So our hope would be to have multiple "Furniture", "Entourage", "Lighting" etc. and be able to easily control their visibility. Once the client picks a solution, the rejects could then be deleted. The alternative of multiple copies of the same model is too cumbersome given the size of the models and the need to switch between the different options.

For now we are working in v2009, waiting until some future date before going to 2010. Edited by: boulderado on Aug 13, 2009 12:51 PM

Thanks cdv,

"Design options" may be our solution. From the quickest of reviews it appears to address the issue of multiple solutions in the same model.

Sometimes you just need a clue to know where to start looking for a solution. Otherwise you're just left flailing at sea.

Due to all the problems with naming conventions of layers in CAD, the original designers of Revit decided that there was going to be a fixed list of Categories that the user cannot add, modify or delete. However, to still provide some flexibility, the user can add, modify & delete Sub-Categories.

don't forget you can use a "generic models" catagory..
