Adding color to balusters, and adding kick plates as a bottom rail.

Hi:
Two part question concerning stairs:

First:
I would like rails and balusters to be yellow.
I see how to add a material and color to rails thru type properties.
However I can't figure how to do add color or materials to balusters

Second:
I want to add a kick plate say 5" high by 1/2 thick to railing-so I need a new profile of that shape added as a low rail
Would appreciate a procedure to do so. I tried with no success how to create a profile and put into proper family

Thanks
Fran

right click on the baluster in the project browser and
select "edit"..

then paint it..

You can add a material parameter to the baluster family geometry. Open the
baluster for editing in the family editporand add the parameter than load
back inot the project. You will now be able to assign materials from your
project to the balusters.

You can create a new profile family for the kickplate shape. Create a new
family form the big "R" and select a railing profile family. Then load this
profile inot your project. Now you can create/alter a railing family to use
this new profile.

One issue-how do I name the newly created rail profile-I get a default name "family1, family1"and don't see how to change it to say, "kick plate" or "rectangle 5x1/2"

When you save the family give it a name. You will also need to define at
least one type in the family to get the full name. The scheme is:

Family name:type name
