4 gable roof problem

Following the Steps in WIKI Help for making the 4 sided gable roof doesn't work.  Error can't make roof.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Theoretically it should be the best way to build the roof. Here's the help page I used:  http://wikihelp.autodesk.com/Revit/enu/2013/Help/00001-Revit_He0/0328-Build_th328/0330-Architec330/0...

Here are my attempts with other procedures:

I tried splitting each side in half and making slope arrows to each center from the corners. Error can't make roof.

I tried making 2 regular gable roofs on top of each other and cutting out the inner portions but that didn't work for the 4th side and the eaves refused to line up.

I tried making 4 separate gable roofs hoping to join them but only got the error can't join roofs. with same 4 simple gable I tried joining objects to no avail.

i just tried it with a roof, 40' square, and slope arrows as shown from endpoint to midpoint with 6/12 slope, and it worked fine.  make sure you select the slope arrows and set them to define "slope" rather than top/bottom elevations. If that doesn't work, can you post your RVT file that you are attempting?

Can you get it to work with a 40'x 44' roof and 12/12 pitch?  Since it won't let me make the roof there's no rvt to post.

I beleive it's a Revit problem.

Here's what I had done to test the instructions on the WIKI page:  I made the walls in a new project, tried making a square roof using the slope arrow, properties, specify slope, drew slop arrows one at at time from corner to center of each non slope defining boundry lines, got error message.

Is there a simple step that is missing fron the instructions?

I'm sorry I should heve let you know that I'm using Revit 2013 and can't open the file you sent.  Would you please save as 2013 and repost?  I really appreciate your help!

Sorry, I don't have 2013 on this machine, and there is no "save as".  One thing i want you to try which seems to be the only difference:  Don't "pick" the walls to draw the sketch of the roof.  Just use either lines or the rectangle sketch tool to draw the 40x40 shape.  Then draw the slope arrows, one at a time, from endpoint to midpoint, don't split the sketch lines.  (tip, if start the slope arrow tool, and set the properties to Slope and to 12/12 BEFORE you draw the arrows, you wont have to go back and change them afterwards)

Try that and let me know if it works for you!  I tested this without drawing any walls, just a square roof in a brand new project, and it worked.  So thats the only difference i can find...

I'm sorry to say that I had already tried that and I tried it again today to no avail.  I wish there were more information in the error report to indicate what exactly is the problem.  I have this same issue with two different computers.  I tried turning off hardware acceleration with no effect.  Is there a setting that I don't know about that could cause this?  Thank you again for your help.  The help desk isn't helping so I'm especially grateful to you.

ok one other thing...is your roof set to "Plumb Cut"? If its set to Two Cut - Plumb or Square, it will fail with "cannot make footprint roof".

YEAH YOU!  It worked!!! Tell the world!  If you have roof issues try changing the rafter tail cut!!!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
