We're investigating ways of creating thumbnails of DWG, DXF and Revit files for use in a browser application:
- the user drops a Revit file on the window
- file uploads to server
- loaded by Revit (?)
- model & camera positioned
- snapshot taken/image saved
- image returned to browser
We know we can probably do it using Revit and the API.
The question is whether it can be done using cheaper tools: Revit LT, or even other options. As long as:
- those file formats are fully supported
- we can somehow pose the model and cameras (might also require getting model bounds)
We know Revit LT does not support 3rd party APIs, but maybe it can be controlled through a TCP port?
Any advice, insight and ideas welcome!
