How to change parameter names?

I have to retrieve some family symbols belonging to the same category. But different symbols have different parameter names defined by users.

How can I change the instance/type parameter (user defined) names?

Thanks.

Dear Kukuzry,

Does the family editor allow you to change the names?

Aha. If it is possible manually, there may be a programmatic way also. You probably have to open the family to edit using the EditFamily method, navigate to the type and family parameter to modify and use the FamilyManager.RenameParameter method on it.

For completeness sake : This won't work for shared parameters, they can't be renamed (not even by hand).

Okay, thanks for pointing this out Jeremy. This is a workaround I will surely try. I was always under the impression shared parameters where "off limits". I once crashed my revit muddling with the sahred parameter file (I clearly says "Don't edit manualy" and I learned the hard way they where not kidding). But apperently jasper found a work-around. Very interesting 🙂
