Family Reference plane

I have need of finding if a geometry element (edge) is on the Family Reference plane for an adjacent element. How do I find the reference plane from a family while working through the elements in a Revit project file?

If a family instance is based on a reference plane, the FamilyInstance.Host property  returns the host reference plane.

If a famly instance is wall/ceiling based, you can get the host element from the FamilyInstance.Host property too. Then from the host element, go through all its planar faces, and judge if the family instance's location point is in which face.

Hope this helps.
