Release 7 ( millennium ed. ) full of bugs !?

So I've recently purchased QC7 expecting a great piece of sofware.
Unfortunately I have slowly come to the realisation that QC7 has
serious ( read serious ) bugs in it. I don't know if any of you guys out
there have had similar problems. I bought this QC7 here in Canada. Here
are 2 of the worst problems I encounter:

    1. The edit toolbar should offer you a place to enter a "from" and "to"
point when trying to move an entity using the Translate button, but
there are no input fields visible. End result... you cannot move
    entities precisely, geez
    .
    2. The Edit menu does not offer you a place to enter a rotation
basepoint after setting the rotation angle and pressing ENTER. End
result... you cannot rotate an entity about a user definable point.
    ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!

So what gives, is it the software or is it me that'a completely going
bonkers. Please people let me know because my finger is on the Uninstall
    trigger.

    Thanks to all

Sorry about that "MonkeyJump" name... he ... it's just a name I use in
    online gaming...
However, am dead seious about my remarks though. I would truly
appreciate any comments, esp. from Autodesk support. Like I said, I
just hope it's me doing something wrong....

    Thanks to all again,

    Hiya, Danny.

Be not dismayed. Things aren't as bad as you fear.

    1. There are maybe a dozen ways to move an entity or object EXACTLY where you
want it. So that this post won't be long, I'll give you one. This method can be
used with many different operations. It appears complicated at first, but once
you get the flow, it's simple.

Select the object and choose the Translate tool from the All-In-One toolbar, or
Edit>Transform>Translate. (On the left of the Edit Bar there is a tick-box to
make a copy if you wish). Note the Status bar at the bottom of the screen. It's
telling you what the program expects you to do. Choose a Snap, like , and
select a point on the object as a reference point, the "From" point. Now the
Status bar says "To". Type for Working Point. Click on the position in the
drawing in relation to where you want object to be move. Type and the 2D
dialog box appears. Enter values in the x/y fields ([Tab] to toggle) that
correspond to that last position. Type [Enter] and close the box with , snap
off. The object will be there.

In other words, if you want the end point of a selected object to be moved 1,2
away from a particular drawing position, then enter 1,2 in the x/y fields of the
coordinates box when the program is asking for the "To" point. Clear as mud?
I'll send you a file about this. Might help. BTW, you can also move the object
Absolutely rather than Relatively by choosing the mode in the dialog box. You
can also use Polar coordinates. Lot's of options.

    2. You can choose the point on an entity around which you want to rotate, the
base point. Select the entity, place your cursor over the AboutPoint and right
click to bring up the short cut menu. Choose MoveAboutPoint and, using a snap
(like or or some such), select the rotation point on the entity as the
base point. You can enter the angle you want it rotated on the Edit Bar, or grab
the rotation handle of the entity, hold down the [Shift] key and rotate smoothly
    to where you wish.

That's the short of it, believe it or not. It's what I do in AutoSketch. Maybe
some of those techniques can be used in QC. I'm not certain about that. Ric will
    tell us.

    Hi Danny,

I was rather hoping QuickCAD R7 had been refined in a manner that reduced
the long-winded commands required for the most basic of tasks....obviously
not. We in the Colonies don't have the new program available yet...it will
    be soon I believe.

Harvey is correct (just for a change)....except for the selection of a
rotation point....there is no need to place the cursor over the about point
and right mouse click to select a new point.

Once the entity has been selected and the rotation angle changed via
Edit>Transform>Rotate...you can simply choose any point within the
selection, or as Harvey explained, select a snap point such as M or E
etc....by-passing the right click menu altogether.

    Ric Norris.

You're correct. I omitted selecting the Rotate tool. Thanks. However, if you
move the AboutPoint to the center of the intended rotation, then you can choose
the Rotation tool and click away anywhere on the selection set, or enter
the angle on the Edit bar and hit [Enter]. Small thing, I suppose. Just a way to
investigate all the ways to do things.
