QuickCAD

I have been using Generic Cadd for over 15 years and need to learn a new drawing program. I am getting almost nowhere because of being hung up on a simple task... how to quickly draw a line to a specific length, in a specific direction. In my old program I would just snap on a point move the curser in the direction I wanted to head, type in a number and hit enter. I have not found an easy way to do that in Quickcad.

Any Suggestions?

After you draw the line, select it (or choose
AutoSelect) and the edit bar will contain the
details you want. Change them there and type
Enter. the line will assume variables you entered.
There's no easier way in this program as far as I
know.

Huhh?

I never thought i might question an answer by Harvey, but.....

select 'draw' > 'line' (any)

1 - Just click in the drawing where you want to start the line
2 - type 'R' (for relative) to get the 'coordinate input box'
3 - click on the 'polar coordinates' button (circle with 2 arrows
attached to it)
4 - enter a lenght and an angle
5 - done

if you type 'A' (absolute) before point 1 you can give the exact
starting cooordinates for the line. Or use some form of snap, etc.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Oh yeah, you're right! I forgot that.

Wait a sec! He said a line. I said there was no
easier way for a LINE. There isn't actually. The
edit bar tells all.

Thank you, Richard. Your "coordinate input box" suggestion was very helpful for quickly drawing a line the length and direction yo want. I now have another issue I'm struggling with... how to zoom in and pring just a portion of the drawing?

Another QuickCad question... I just realized that saving a file as PDF file type was not an option. Am I wasting my time learning this program?

No, you're not. It depends on what you want to do with it. Don't give up
just because of a missing 'save as PDF' function. That's easily
corrected with one of the free PDF 'printers' like CutePDF. Or google a
little. I used Quickcad for years and later Autosketch (they are
essentially the same program). I like the way it works and haven't found
a real alternative. Probably others will step in and tell you that the
program is dead (well, actually Quickcad is and R9 will likely be the
last Autosketch version) but the knowledge gained will never be lost.

If you feel like it you can try alternatives like Progecad Smart or
others. I did and kept coming back. Maybe i'm just an old dog and hate
to learn new tricks....

Draw a 'marquee' around the area you want to print, drag to draw a
marquee, then in the print dialog select 'Marquee View' as the view to print.

I too used Generic CADD for years until the disks got wet and became corrupted. I wish I had those disks back. Marty, why did you have to move to the Quick CAD? Is there any way to enter commands in a "command window" and not use the mouse?
