    Multiple scales on same drawing.

I was wondering if this was possible. Example: I have a plan view
of a foundation layout set at 1/8" scale and would like to show a
section-cut through a foundation wall set at 1/4" scale, all on the same
drawing. Can this be done in QC7. Maybe you can set different scales on
    different layers...(not...

    Thanks to all respondants

    Danny,

Check over in the AutoSketch newgroup for a recent post called "Convert", from
Al Najjar last Friday. In the thread are a number of ways to do this. If you
can't find the post, repost here and I'll copy it to you.

    Harvey,

I checked over at the AS ng like you said and read the post. What
they are talking about is scaling up ( or scaling down ) an already
drawn part of the drawing to create a detail view. What I want to do is
draw independant entities on the same drawing at different scales. For
example I would want something like the following to work:

Show an elevation view of a boat at 1/8"=1'0" scale and,

Show a cross section of the boat at, say, 1/4" = 1'0" scale instead.

...both views side by side ... both on the same drawing...and both views
    editable with their respective scales.

I may be asking a lot from QC7 but I wonder if anyone has ever
    accomplished to do this.

    regards

    Danny

    Hi Danny,

I am not exactly sure whether you wish to show the views after you have
drawn both elevations or have both views appear as you draw them.

AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT has an extremely powerful feature called
multiple/floating viewports and model/paper space which allows you to have
differently scaled areas of a drawing in an independant (although still
referenced) viewport. QuickCAD/AutoSketch unfortunately do not have this
    feature.

From what you're suggesting, you ideally would like this feature....combined
    with 3D capabilties.

    Ric Norris.

    Danny,

You might want to try a "Detail View". Check Help for this topic then click
on the How To button. Works pretty good.

This is fine for showing the detail, but you can't edit the Detail View itself.
And if you move the position of the original drawing, then what you have chosen
    to detail changes accordingly.

The Detail View should be used when the main drawing is finished and you have
decided what bits and pieces you want to show an enlargement of. Then you
Marquee those views and save them with appropriate names. Recall them, use
Detail View and place/enlarge them where you want.

I don't believe this command is what Danny is looking for. The feature he needs
may not be available in QC. But I've been wrong before.

    Re:

    Harvey,

The feature I'm looking for is *not* available in QC7 but only on
higher priced Autodesk products ( I can't speak for AutoSketch though as
I'm not familiar with the product... ). For those of you who are
interested there is a simple way around my problem however. I'll try to
explain it concisely. Let's go back to my example that I stated earlier
    about the ship...

What I want is ----> An elevation view of a ship at 1/8" scale and,
----> A section view of the ship at 1/4" scale.
...both on the same drawing, and both side by side.

What I suggest you do is:

a.) Draw both views at 1/8" scale and finalize the drawing this way,
    then,
b.) Explode all the dimensions in the 1/4" view so that the text and
dimension lines become seperate entities ( This will effectively end
*all* associative dimensioning during scaling up and scaling down
    operations )
c.) Reduce all the text height by half in the 1/4" view.
d.) Reduce the terminator size of the dimension arrows by half in the
    1/4" view.
e.) Select all the entities in the 1/4" view
f.) Use the Scale button to scale up by a factor of 2

et voila, the 1/4" detail view magically appears with arrow sizes and
text sizes matching those in the 1/8" view. Correct dimensions and all.

    bye to all

    Danny

note: steps c.) and d.) could also have been done in step a.)

    Danny,

That's what is affectionately known as a workaround. This particular one appears
to be quite a PITA, though. Wouldn't it be nice to have the capability of
placing two entities on one drawing page, each with its own scaling?

But I'm glad to know that I wasn't wrong yet again. However, we haven't heard
from Paul yet. He could surprise us, but I'll bet you an alligator suitcase he
    won't come up with anything.
