Freeze on opening .dwg with QC7

I just obtained QuickCAD to work with several architects' dwg files.

The first one freezes on the "Open Shape File" dialog box.

The dwg file is about 300k, shows beautifully in the Preview window and
opens fine in NS with Vdraft.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

By the way, are there sources for architecctual symbols other than the
    Autodesk CD?

    Bob,

My guess would be that the drawing has 3D objects in it and QuickCad
doesn't do 3D. If you flatten the drawing file, you should be able to open
it with no problems. The preview displays fine because it is a small
bitmap that is attached to the drawing file.

    Keith,

How do you flatten it before opening
    it?

    Actually, the name of the Open Shape File it hung up on was Archstyl.shx;
I found it and put it in QuickCAD's Properties subdirectory and then it
opened fine, with notice that it was flattening 3D objects.

    Bob,

Flattening would have to be done in AutoCAD before you get the file.
Sometimes QuickCad has problems in this area but I am glad it's not for
you and that it was the font file that was the problem.
