Heidi Driver for HP1050c?

Autodesk:

Like so many others, we at our firm use a multitude of custom paper sizes.
We have all of our custom sizes located in a "custom.pmp" file which has
worked well with both our HP DJ600 and DJ650c plotters. Of course we set
those plotters up as Network Plotters utilizing Autodesk Heidi Drivers which
allowed us to set up ONE pc3 file for each plotter and still had all of our
custom sizes available to us.

Now we have upgraded to a HP DJ1050c and although you can load the
"custom.pmp" file it will not plot to any of the sizes properly. In
addition, if you go through custom properties - more sizes you are only
allowed to set up ONLY 5 custom paper sizes for that individual pc3 file.
We have 12 different sizes that we use and do not want to create separate
pc3's for this one plotter. Simplicity is our goal for overall use
throughout our firm...

Question #1: Is there a (HDI) Heidi Driver available for the HP DJ1050c so
we can set up our plotting just as before and if so where?

Question #2: If there is no Heidi Driver available, is there any way to set
up more than 5 custom sizes per pc3 file?

Expertise and advise on this issue would be greatly appreciated,

I have a similar problem. I tried using the hpgl2/rtl 4.4 driver, but that
won't let me set up the plotter as a network device. If I try the windows
system printer route, I have very limited functionality and zero success
plotting.
I am running a2k on win2000. Any help would be great.

Chuck,

Can a mere mortal that does not work for Autodesk respond?

If you really want to get Autodesk's attention, posting here is not going to
do it: go to http://www.autodesk.com/feedback and let them know what you
think.

Also search this newsgroup for solutions particular with your plotter: your
'problem' is easily fixed, and most of us using HP plotters on networks have
access to more sheet sizes than we know what to do with.

As for Heidi Drivers, Autodesk is getting away from those in favor of
Windows Printer Drivers: to quote the HP-GL/2 Driver Overview section of the
HELP in AutoCAD:

"If you have a Hewlett-Packard DesignJet, you should select the System
Printer option in the Add-a-Plotter wizard. Hewlett-Packard has re-designed
its print path to use the Windows system printer. You can get excellent
print speed and quality through the system printer.
NOTE Versions 4.00 and later of the HP-GL/2 & RTL DesignJet Windows System
Printer drivers have been optimized for printing from AutoCAD 2000. Version
4.00 is available in ACAD2000\HP\DesignJet on the AutoCAD installation
CD-ROM. New versions of the drivers are posted on Hewlett Packard's web site
(www.hp.com).
You can use this HDI driver if you use a device that emulates an HP plotter
and uses HP-GL/2. Follow the device manufacturer's recommendations for
switching your plotter to the correct emulation mode. You can also shift
your plotter to HP-GL/2 mode by providing a pre-initializing string in the
Plotter Configuration Editor."

Dean:
Thank you for your input. We have already downloaded the latest drivers
from HP and I have spent a considerable amount of time searching through
Autodesk's web site on this issue but have still not found a solution.
Problems we encounter include: 1) The standard paper sizes given do not
actually cut to the sheet size specified (which is why we must set up cutom
sizes to begin with). 2) You can only specify 5 custom sizes per PC3. 3)
We cannot find a Heidi (HDI) plot driver for our new HP DJ1050c. So Dean,
if you have any exact destination to resolve these issues please respond.
Thanks,
Chuck

Dear Chuck,

Is'nt it possible to make just 1 custom pagesize big enough to plot all your
drawings.

Not an option. Our largest plot size is 36"x48" and our smallest being
11"x17". Since we are using a 36" wide roll feed plotter you are talking
not only a significant waste of processed forestry product but some serious
loss in time by trimming each and every plotted sheet to the required size.
LOL
Thanks anyway,
Chuck =o)

Chuck, there is an "Inked Area" option in the driver properties; if you
check that, the plotter should use just the paper needed for your plots.

Govert:

I realize that this is an option
and I do appreciate your suggestion.  Yet, choosing this option eliminates
the consistency in trimmed sheet size.  On this issue I have come to the
conclusion that we have to lump it and use the "standard sizes"
provided with the driver (ansi, arch, etc.).  With this we do at least have
5 custom sizes that we can use for special circumstances.
