Quadro graphic cards are not compatible with AutoCAD 2012

Even though you'll find on Autodesk certiciation hardware pages that the Quadro cards are certified with AutoCAD 2012, Nvidia says it's not the case (see their answer below)

    Hi Patrick,

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

Similar  performance problems have been reported on AutoCAD 2012 and the core  reason for this is, Autodesk removed the ability to add a performance  driver for the 2012 releases.

By removing the ability to add a  driver, Autodesk has removed the ability for us to improve the  performance of the Quadro in their applications. Our tests have shown  that a Quadro will deliver higher frames per second on the previous  Autodesk versions than they do on the current versions. We are working  with Autodesk to help them improve their base level performance for  their 2013 versions and beyond.

Let me know if any more questions.

    Best regards,

    Mike

Let's hope the new HP workstation doesn't have this problem... http://www.hp.com/z1

Thats being a little loose with the interpretation, while nVidia was being very precise.  AutoCAD works just fine and is compatible with Quadro cards.  Reading carefully, the nVidia folks note that AutoDesk "...removed the ability to add a performance driver...".  Card still works, still provides acceleration, but the "performance driver" that nVidia had previously been specifically creating for earlier version of AutoCAD can't be done for the newer versions.  But thats almost a non-issue - I've heard of very few people actually installing said "AutoCAD performance driver" and for those that did, it caused a few visual quirks resulting in them changing back to the normal one.

Agreed..... and perhaps the reason Autodesk refused to let them develop a performance driver is due to all the compatabilty issues with Nvidia cards recently.  It's easier to support customers using just one buggy driver, than customers using two different buggy drivers.

Our experience, on two different machines, with Quadro drivers for AutoCAD 2012 is that 3D visualisation operations are faster without than with the driver... We bought these cards trusting Autodesk statement that these cards are certified for AutoCAD 2012. It is not clearly stated on Autodesk site that "certified" means AutoCAD will just work normaly with the card, if I buy a several hundreds dollars graphic card, I expect 3D visualisation to significatively improve, and not degrade.
