clumping particles

I need to make something similar to this ....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLLWkx_MRfk

Particles are attracted to one another and clump. When the clumps reach a certain size, they start to clump together with other bigger clumps. It's done in Maya using nparticles.

I'd appreciate advice on where I could start.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm still in the process of thinking about it but I have a very high level idea of how this could be done using the number of collisions to determine when the big clumps would start attracting each other.

Give me some time to play around a bit. If anyone else here has an idea feel free to chime in.

Also just making sure, you'd like to know how to do this in 3ds Max not Maya right?

Hi Ben
Yes, it's 3dsmax not Maya.
