One formula used by a lot of companies is that of IRR or Internal Rate of Return. This is a complicated formula, one which Excel handles by making it a standard function similar to SUM or AVERAGE.
A way to make this a "standard" in some form to be used in a computed field would be very helpful.
Another thought might be to have standard martix fields that carry certain financial or other formulas in them that could be applied to a section and used as required.
