Getting Files with the API

Hello, everyone

I'd like to know how to get and store files with the API.

I've been looking at the API, and I think I understand how to get all the metadata for items in a workspace, but I didn't quite understand the file manipulation. Can I gain access to all the file versions, or just the latest?

If you have a few lines of sample code, that would be great. Sorry if I overlooked this in the samples. Thanks
