Is it or would it be possible to backup and restore a all PLM360 tenant (configuration and records)?...
I need to be able to create a demo dataset and to restore it prior to start a new demo!
This type of question has been asked many of times in the training sessions that we have been holding. The answer to this is no there is not a way for a user to backup and or restore a tenant. However you can clone workspaces and purge them of data as many times as you like. In essence you can have 5 workspaces that act the exact same but hold different data, or clone a workspace to use as a sandbox before making changes to the original workspace.
If you are looking to demo the same workspace for two different clients I would suggest using the purge tool found in the admin > workspace section of the tenant. This will remove all data from the workspace but retain all basic information and functionality.
Does this mean there is no way to recover a deleted record????
In my opinion, purging all workspaces is not a very good way because you have to recreate records every time you start a new demo...
And showing a product like PLM360 with an empty database does not give a good impression to the customer...
I think showing a software like PLM360 started by showing the customer he will be able to fine and repport the information he needs... If the DB is empty... This make no sens!
I can survive ;o) with the today situation... but this should be addressed to help us presenting the product!
A video tip "Using PLM 360's Recycle Bin" was included in an earlier post to the PLM 360 Forum by Michelle Stone.
Here is the link to the video that is referenced.
This will assist you on how to retrieve Records/Items you have accidentally deleted or need to resurrect.
If you clone a workspace and use that for your Demo purposes, you will always have the original Workspace to go back to and reference.
From my point of view it would have been very good (on demo purpose) to be able to do a restore from a simple backup.
I do so each time I do a Vault W/C/P demo... It is easier and safer to know exactly in which condition you are when you start a presentation...
I agree with you that for a "normal" use the recycle bin is very good!
The need for an Admin-controlled backup/restore is well understood and is logged as a new Feature Request.
Thanks for your feedback!
There is an issue with Purge
1. If any records have milestones on them they can't be purged - just go to the task records and delete the milestones form the tabs
2. If any item is linked to a project schedule, it can't be purged - go to the project tab and remove the references to the records
in both the above cases for tasks, you probably have both.
Please also consider the backup tool for those who want to stop using PLM360 in years to come but want to get all their Data. Not that I would necessarily agree with any business ceasing to use such a great product, but it is a major concern for those looking at PLM 360 as a product to use going forward. Its a safety blanket for them, knowing they can retrieve all of their data themselves without having to rely on Autodesk to provide it...
