Link back to a Project from inside a Task

Once a Task is linked to a Project, how do you see what project it's linked to from in the Task?

Hi Keith and welcome to our forum!

Currently there is no way to see way to see a where used for a particular task – great idea though and I’ll pass it along.

Hi,

I found an alternate solution by using a 'pick list' field which can be set to refer items from the Project. Please refer the attached images.

That works, but I have to manually fill in the field.

Is there a way through Scripts to have that field filled in automatically when I add the task to the Project?

Right now there isn't.  The project Links aren't accessable via the scripting engine - We're still evolving it as time goes on.

What I personally would like to do is have a "where used" tab for projects.  This way you don't have to do the pick list.  We use the same workspace combo of Projects and Taks internally at Autodesk.  I've gone down the path of the pick list but decided it was much to confusing for people to manually update since it was a bit of redundant data... I ended up getting rid of the field and wait for another concept to help it.

The Where Used idea makes perfect sense. Especially since it appears Tasks could be assigned to multiple projects.

I agree, like Brian pointed out, when changes occur it just gets too complicated. We currently have our Task & Project links all scripted so it is autonomous to a degree, but we are leveraging other calculations using the workflow, so at the moment its worth it.
