Changing picklist will result in corrupt data

Hi there,

1. I made a test WS where I imported some data connected to a field with predefined names.

2. I made changes to the picklist, order and names

3. The data is now corrupt as what I think the picklist is based on the index and not the content

For example, the picklist used to be:

  1. Anne
  2. Daniel
  3. Jonas

And I changed to:

  1. Anne
  2. Anders
  3. Daniel
  4. Jonas

In every item in the name field everything that used to be Jonas, ended up being Daniel. But only the data inside of the item. The description is still the same as the original.

Known problem?

Kind regards,

Jonas

Hi Jonas,

Have you considered creating a workspace picklist? In this case, the data will come from a workspace and not from a pre-defined list of values.

Jonas,

This is the way the software is designed.   We save the Index so you can change the values without affecting the data that's saved.  For example - Let's say today your pick list is

  • Focus
  • Escort
  • Fiesta

And later you decide you want to carry more car manufactures, you can insert the name / edit them in order to show this.

  • Ford Focus
  • Ford Escort
  • Ford Fiesta
  • BMW 335i

You can do this, and edit the values without breaking the data.

There is however a pick list type that can keep the retained Value so even if you change the pick list, you can make sure your item will keep the old value until you edit it.
