newbie question #2: the semantics of transparant functions.

I'm terrorfied. If I create a transparent command, does the active command ignore it's return value. Say you write a transparant command that simply returns the hieght of the active viewport (I know object arx is overkill for this). What happens If I invoke it during the offset command? Is it like a transparent zoom or is it like passing a lispexpression to a command?
Thanks for looking at this
John

It's like transparent zoom.
