I have a Navisworks file that I am trying to align all the models together.
-- Since navisworks imports .dwg incorrectly SEE HERE: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Navisworks/Naviswork-imports-dwfx-file-incorrectly-QuickPEN-d...
I already have to move the .dwg files by the above method to get them on the correct plane. Now, my base, architectural model, I had to align true North with the model's North. I now have a arch model facing one way, and a bunch of MEP models rotated 90 degrees off. (Looking at plan view, it looks like an "L" shape)
I need to rotate the .dwg files both along the X-axis and Y-axis. By using "Units and Transform" it appears you can only move a model "once" using this method? I move the model once using units andd transform to get it on the correct plane from the above glitch in navisworks (file imports incorrectly), When I then try to go back and rotate that model again, the untis and transform section is alraedy filled out, and changing the values, I lose my alignment.
I need to align the MEP models with the arch model and know you can use the "item tool" and "rotate" but there is no "snapping" and you can not get a perfect 90 degree angle doing it this way.
Please help!
Hi tfisch86
After rotating the DWF’s through File Units and Transform to reorient it correctly so it faces upright, you still have to rotate it about the z axis to spin it into the position. You stated this won't work because it doesn’t snap using Item Tools > Transform. However, you should be able to slide out the Transform panel to allow the entry of values for the rotation about the z axis. After enabling the Rotate tool, you’ll want to set the Transform origin to 0,0,0 so you rotate the model about the origin and not the center of the model.
I’ve attached a video of the process in which I have two models:
1. An export of a revit project to DWF which results in the incorrect up orientation
2. An NWC export of the save project but with true north rotated 90 degrees.
To put the DWF into the correct position, I rotated it 90 degrees about X. I then rotated the model through Item Tools 90 degrees about Z after setting the Transform origin to 0,0,0.
Does this work on your end?

Hi John,
This sounds better then my workaround:
1a) Create a new NWF, attacht the model to be rotated.
1b) Rotate it around X or Y so that it stands upright
1c) Save as NWD
2a) in the complete model NWF, attach this NWD
2b) use File units and Transform to rotate it around Z and "move" it to the right location.
The downside of this procedure, is that you need to do it whenever the model gets an update...
You can set it in native NWF file.
You have to figure out the sum of vectors you want to rotate about.
Easiest way is to rotate item with Item Tools / Rotate.
Make sure to set Transform Center to 0,0,0.
Than rotate item to your needs.
The tool resets after each use.
You can read the final translation in Transform window.
Rotation window gives you angle of rotation about a normalized vector.
