publishing nwf to nwd issue.

Hello, prior to Christmas I published a nwf file to nwd format. I have now edited the nwf file and want to publish the updated file but as I did not check the "may be re saved " box I get the error message - the current model includes a locked published file........

I have read a few articles and forum posts on the issue but I own all the files etc and can not understand why the software would only allow one publication of a model. I need to publish this revised timelined model for a meeting tommorrow as the pc we are using only has freedom viewer on it and can hence only read nwd files.

How do i unlock the model please?

Unfortunately it isn't possible to republish the model once it has been locked in this way. Unfortunately you would need to go back and recreate the model data set.

Unfortunately so, the option is there so users can tightly control how the models are distributed. Here is a blog post about this from last year.

I am actually weeping as I type this.

What a stupid feature that could seriously cost me £15m

Can I edit the nwd file with the changes I recently made to the nwf file instaed?

Unfortunately you won't be able to resave the NWD at all, the file has been locked from further changes.

You may be able to extract the information from the NWD file by exporting Search Sets, CSV files, Appearance Definitions, and importing these to a new file. There will still be manual work involved in rebuilding the file though. I'm sorry we cannot be of more help there.

Where possible we suggest that you create an NWF which contains all the Navisworks specific data that references the geometry either as native files or an NWD created from the native files. Then at periods where you would want to present the file, an NWD can be published which may have password, date or saving restrictions to ensure the correct version is being worked on.

Using the Save As > NWD may be better for the future unless you need any additional information on the files or any restrictions.

I have fallen foul of the save as before as it does not take all the data with it.

I was in a presentation to a client and i opened the saved as nwd and the site plan was missing along with a lot of the materials. The file worked fine on our network as it was reading the data from various parts of the server, when i saved as the nwd file to memory stick to use on a laptop the issues occurred.

I was then told to always publish my nwd's to avoid this. Now publishing has caused another more fatal issue.

The boxed labelled "may be re saved" should be ticked by default to avoid this ridiculous issue. Then at least people are conscious of what they are doing.

What a bad bad day

anyway thanks for your help I have informed all our staff of this issue so it only happens to me.
