Tag number does not match comment id

I have been adding tags with comments to saved viewpoints. Occasionally I have to delete the tags. When I add new tags again, the tags and comments id's no longer match.

I have tried to renumber tags & ids, but it does not correct the problem.

Is there a way to get both id's to match again?

For me, this is an issue when I am looking at a saved viewpoint. The tag number that is shown on the screen does not show up in the comments box, only the comment id shows up. And if the tag id and comment id do not match, there is way to relate the two.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi erickrout,

T
he renumber comment IDs and renumber tag IDs functions are used when there is a duplication of IDs, which can occur if you merge NWD or NWF files together.

The comment ID for a tag won't necessarily have the same value as its tag ID.  For example, in a new session, if you create a viewpoint and then add a comment to that viewpoint, its comment ID will be 1.  If you then create a tag in that viewpoint, the tag ID will be 1, but the comment ID for the tag will be 2.

If you want to be able to view the tag number along with the comments to relate the two, you can use the Find Comments tool.

1. Click Find Comments in the Comments panel of the Review tab.

2. Leave the search criteria blank in the Comments tab of Find Comments,

3. Mark "Redline Tags" in the Source tab and unmark the other types if you don’t want those types displayed

4. Click the Find button

In the list at the bottom, you should see all the tags that you have created.  The name of those tags will include the viewpoint that they reside on as well as the tag ID.  When you select a tag from the list, the current viewpoint will update to the viewpoint containing the tag and the comments window will update with the tag’s comment.

Please let me know if this helps.

But actually, sometimes during review process we need to assign certain numeric values for some tags to avoid any confusion with our customers especially if some comments are deleted, as we get print screen for viewpoint with the shown tags IDs.

So please advise for the possibility of assigning new Tag IDs

Hi Guys,

I work with Navisworks 2016 Manage and I also found the tags and comments ID's as a complicated area. I think that if in the comment window we can see the tag ID's also, it'll be great.

In my opinion tags should have their own comments and the general comments should be separated from the tags comments because now this case confusions.

I found also that when viewpoints are exported as a HTML we can see only the general comments ID's and not the tags ID's. This is very confusing. For example, on a viewpoint I have a tag with number 5, but this tag's comment ID is 20, so when this viewpoint is exported as a HTML under this viewpoint I will see the comment ID with the tag's comments included in it.

Now imagine that there are 5 tags on this viewpoint with tag ID's 5;6;7 each of them has the following comments ID's:

tag ID 5 - the comment ID for this tag is 20

tag ID 6 - the comment ID for this tag is 22

tag ID 7 - the comment ID for this tag is 30

When this view point is exported we'll see only the comments ID's on the HTML file and we won't be able to figure out the relationship between the comments ID's and the tags ID's.

I hope, I explained it correctly.

I am looking forward for you comments.

There should be a method to rename the 'comment id' just as you can rename the tag view. This would be good in the next version.
