Poor Navisworks Performance

I can't quite figure out what my issue is that I am having with navisworks.  I am using Navisworks Manage 2011, and within ten minutes of starting the program it becomes so slow to navigate it is unusable, when Navisworks is slow no other program seem to be effected.

Comp Specs:

Windows 7 64

8gb Ram

i7 Q820

Nvidia Quadrao 880m

Using dual monitors.

Model:

viewing one floor at a time.

6  .nwc files loaded per floor

.75mb average file size for each .nwc

-I've determined the machine is not overheating.

-I've tried 6 different driver verisons up to the latest and greatest but there is no change in performance.

-I've managed to get hands on an indentical laptop, except it had 16gb ram instead of 8 and it had not issues at all.  I matched it's video card driver version and that did not help at all.

-Bios is fully updated.

-Other computers looking at the model have no issue at all, though they are different types of computers.

-I've gone though the options menu and tried chaning everything I cold think of and it doesn't make a difference.  However sometimes after a change the program speeds up for a short period of time again.

-Software mode is usable, but far from ideal.

Not sure what else to try or even what my exact issue is.  Any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks,

Evan

It’s tough to tell exactly what is going on with your PC but there are some things you can try. First, how large is your model in total? I would figure that you may have some slower performance on a huge file. You mentioned you had 6 files a floor at .75 Meg a piece. How many floors are we talking? If you have a hundred floors, this could be a large file.  How large is your file in total?

I would turn off Hardware acceleration in your Options menu and see if the behavior improves.

Next I would update your Graphics drivers.

Also, I would turn off other excessive programs to see if they are hampering your performance.

Have you audited the model for scattered geometry? Sometimes, geometry imports either incorrectly from your source files (could be a wrong loader year) or there is just geometry left over from your original design that you thought was deleted. In any case, this can result in geometry being placed far away from the main model and can affect performance.

To Audit your model for scattered geometry:

1.) Open the model.

2.) Press CTRL + Home or right-click the model space and click Viewpoint > Navigation Tools > View all.

3.) Your model will shrink to fit in the window space. If it zooms out really far, you may have some errant geometry far away in space. You could select the viewable portion of your model, right click and select “Hide Unselected” to hide the scattered geometry. It may help.

After some more trial and error I've determined the issue to be hyperthreading.  After setting the cpu affinity only two physical cores, the program worked perfectly.  I've since disabled hyperthreading in the bios and now longer have the issue.

Also here, try setting the "nVidia Desktop manager" OFF and prevent nwiz.exe from starting up.

Perhaps this gains also some performance
