Grid intersection and level info don't show up in Navisworks 2013

The new features of 2013 is that when you run the clash detection, the result tab will show the grid intersection and level info of each clash.

Does this work only if you append the native Revit file?

I normally export certain things out in the Revit Architecture by using NWC exporter.  If I append the NWC files, it doesn't retain the grid intersection and level info then?  Is that correct?

Hi diesellam,

I tested and the grids to export when exporting from Revit using the Navisworks 2013 exporter plugin.  Did you export from an earlier version of Revit using an earlier version of exporter plugin and bring that NWC into Navisworks 2013?  Grids and Levels will only export using the 2013 exporter.  However, I tested Revit 2012 with the 2013 exporter, and the grids/levels still export.

Are the grids and levels displaying in the view but not in the clash results column or are the grids not exporting at all?

If you export the rac_advanced_sample_project.rvt that comes with Revit under the folder  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit Architecture 2013\Program\Samples do the grids/level convert and do they display in the columns if you create a simple clash tests with some results?

You are right. It works now. I think I chose the 2012 exporter instead of 2013 exporter. 2 questions I have: (see attached file) 1. Can you change the elevation of the grid lines? 2. The number in the parenthesis () next to the grid lines, what do they stand for? Also, the level should be basement, how come it shows up as "roof deck"? Thanks in advance

Hi diesellam

Grids will exist at the elevation of the levels they reside on in Revit.  You can change the grid mode to display the grid above the camera, below, above and below, or show all grids.  This is found under View > Grids & Levels.  Does this answer your question.  You can change the coloring under Application Button > Options > Interface > Grids.

With regard to the numbers, it is easier to understand if you turn on the XYZ axis, position readout, and grid location HUD tools under View > Navigation Aids, set the display units to feet in the Options Editor, and point the camera down as you use the walk tool to see where you are positioned in relation to the grids.

The numbers in the parenthesis are how many feet away from the gridline you are currently positioned.  For example, if you are facing in the +x direction in model space, and you are 3 feet past a gridline, you’ll see a (3) next to the Grid identifier.  As you move closer to the next grid line the number will continue to increase by how many feet away you are from the gridline you passed until you reach the halfway point between the two grids.  At that point, the grid display will change to that next grid identifier and you’ll see a negative value that gets closer to 0 as you become closer to the next gridline.

Regarding the level displaying as roof deck, try showing the levels in the display by switching to orthographic mode under Viewpoint and click the front face of the view cube.  Are the levels incorrect and don’t match those when viewing the levels in an elevation view of your model in Revit?  It should state the nearest level that camera is above.

I have the naviswork plug in installed in Revit and Naviswork. I used the revit export to nwc tool to bring my draing into naviswork but out of the 3 drawings that I have only one draing shows the gridline. the other two show up in my grid menu with all the levels but no gridline to see or read, even when I try to change it in the menu. Do you think this is a setting in Revit or in Naviswork?
