Freedom 2015 Doesn't Recognize .NWD Files

The only way we can open our .NWD files in Freedom 2015 is to open it first, then load the files from the open menu. You used to be able to just click on the .NWD file in a folder, but windows doesn't recognize the file, and even Browsing for and selecting Navisworks as the default program doesn't work.

Is anybody else having this issue?

Have you tried running a repair of your installation?

Yes, this is has been an issue for years.

the cause is that Freedom, Simualte and Manage all are registerd as "roamer.exe" and if you have had different versions on your machine, windows does not know which roamer to choose.

The normal way to correct this for all other extentions is Shift+Select an NWD file -> Right mouse menu -> open with, select the program where you want NWD files to be opened with and check the option "always open with the selected program".

but with NWD files this does not work.

The only way to solve this is registry -editing, so no warranty whatsoever:

save this with notepad as a .reg file and doubleclick it to import it.

--------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\nwd\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Autodesk\\Navisworks Freedom 2014\\roamer.exe\" \"%1\""

I read the OP's problem as that he just has Freedom installed, not that he has Freedom and Manage/Simulate both installed.

In any case, you can easily change which product opens NWD files by default.  If you want Freedom to have the file associations, then de-select it when you install Manage/Simulate and then return to the installer and install Freedom afterwards.  This will ensure Freedom is the default for NWD files.

The chances are, however, you have already got both Freedom and one of Manage/Simulate installed, and in this case, you will need to run a "reinstall" type of repair on the product you want to have file associations.
