Excel Error after Installing Simulate 2013

I recently installed 10 copies of AutoDesk NavisWorks Simulate 2013 on 10 Windows 7 64-bit PC;s. Whenever a user who is not an administrator tries to use Excel on any computer that has NavisWorks 2013 installed, it prompts the user for the Roamer.msi file from the NavisWorks install DVD. It didn't do this before NavisWorks 2013 was installed. It does not bring up the error if an administrator opens Excel.

What does Excel have to do with NavisWorks and Roamer.msi???

I appreciate the help.

Roamer is the name of the service for Navisworks. Instead of using Navisworks.exe, it uses Roamer.exe.

This issue sounds very similar to an issue that was in the 2010 version of the software. In the cases seen, when another user logs into the computer other than the user that installed the application, they receive these error message when running other software.

In the previous cases, exporting a specific registry key created in the account of the user that installed, and then installing that key on the user that is running the software helped resolve the issue:

Please try the following:

1. Log onto the machine as the administrator user that installed Navisworks Simulate 2013

2. From the Windows Start menu -> Run -> type "Regedit"

Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows Registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.   Use the Microsoft Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in the related Autodesk solution, http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS66513. Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.

3. Expand to and select the following key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\NavisWorks Simulate x64\10.0]

4. Select File > Export and save to a *.reg file

5. Place the reg file into a shared location on the computer that your users on the machine can access

6. Log on the machine as the user having the issues with the error message

7. Run the *.reg file.

Thanks for the suggestion. That fixed it for the most part. The roamer.msi window still comes up every time you open Excel, but it disappears on its own a few seconds later.
