Double Sided 3dsmax material support

Hi Guys,

We created a scene in 3dsmax with civil view signs which we want to export to navisworks through nwc. Now all we can see in Navisworks is a gray placeholder but no actual sing map. The signs created with Civil View are using double sided materials in 3dsmax. Does Navisworks (nwc export) even support double sided materials?

Thanks.

Remco

You may be able to export the model as an FBX file and view this in Navisworks using the Autodesk graphics system instead of the Presenter one (change this in Interface > Display > Graphics Systems if it doesn't do this automatically).

Otherwise unfortunately we do not currently support double sided materials.

Can you confirm if this workaround solves the problem for you.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately the workaround doesn't solve the problem. We get a bunch of export errors which aren't really clear to us, but I guess it has problems exporting the maps too. I think this is something for a future release, because now we have to map each sign twice (in 3dsmax and in navisworks), that's not really BIM I guess... 😉

It might be worth posting up on the relevant forum about the error messages when you export to FBX. If you have a file you can post, all the better.
