Convert Points from DGN file

Hi,

Is there a way to not convert points from DGN files. When I convert my DGN files, there is always points that are far away from my model and bring me few problems. With the clipping plane for example, I need to fixed it if I don't want to get culling problem.

But there is one problem that I cannot solve. I use a lot the "page down" shortcut to zoom on object but when there is a point associated with the object, my view get very far in order to get a global view of my object and this is obviously not what I want.

I haven't found a way to delete them without deleting something else. I tried to change the DGN options in the file readers option like "align global origins" and the convert option but none of them seems to isolated the "points".

Any solution?

thanks

The only way I can deal with objects that are "far off" is to delete them in the CAD file.

Is it an option to use MicroStation or AutoCAD 2010 or higher to edit the DGN files and delete the points that are bothering you ?

Or switch some layers off, and then WBLOCK the entire contents of what you still can select and than use that DWG insteadof the original CAD file ?

Hi!

Thanks for the answer and sorry for the delay. I have autocad but since I have hundreds of DGN and I receive weekly unpade of those hundreds DGN, it is not worth the time it would take.

Thanks

Dear JFMarcoux,

The DGN reader/exporter options do not allow for a “Convert Points” option as the DWG/DXF reader does.  I recommend submitting this as a wishlist item on our feedback page:

As you may have found testing the various options, if you unmark “convert lines and arcs” in the Options Editor > File Readers > DGN options, points no longer convert.  However, as the name of the option implies, neither will lines, splines, curves, arcs, circles, or ellipses.

As you stated editing the files isn’t an option since you have many DGNs that are being updated, if you leave lines and points on,  if you use the selection box tool to drag a box around only the portion of the model you want visible and select Home > Visibility > Hide Unselected, does the extra stuff on the outskirts hide to all only zoom to the non-hidden portion when select View All?

Are they really Points that are bothering you?

It schould be possible to ask the provider of the DGN files to leave them out.

Just "overriding visibilty" them by selecting them based on their property is not enough in my experience.

John: Using the visibility doesn't solve my problem.

Patrick: yes those are really Points. If I go under Viewpoints -> Render style and uncheck the "Point", they disappear. Asking the provider of the DGN isn't really an option too. It comes from another compagny, they aren't really happy to give me those files and let say that the communication isn't easy.

I guest I will have to live with that

Thanks
