Shipconstructor to Navisworks

We are currently working with Shipconstructor 2008 and Navisworks Manage 2010.   What we need is an active model that is updated automatically when the dwg models change.  We then want to run clash tests weekly, but don't want to have to sort thru duplicate clashes. Should we export entire dwg model from Shipconstructor via nwdout or nwcout?  Should we create a new file in Navisworks and merge or append all of the dwg files?  What is the best, most reliable method to accomplish this?  Thanks.

Thank you for your question.

The two methods can both solve this problem. I think the second way "create a new file in Navisworks and merge or append all of the dwg files" is easier.

In addition, you can use NWF to refresh model changes automatically. Please follow these steps to save a nwf file and then run clash test.

1. Create a new file in Navisworks and merge or append all of the dwg files.

2. Save the new file as NWF file.

3. Run clash test in the NWF file.

Then you can always use the NWF to run clash test as long as the path of these dwg files can't be changed.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks for the reply.  That process is exactly what we were looking for.  We were having a problem with certain dwg files coming in as line drawings but we applied the Navisworks service pack and that seems to have fixed the problem.  However, we are having problems being able to select items by layer.  We need to be able to select and hide the maintenance and clearance envelopes while running Clash tests.  Is there a fix we need to install to Navisworks or Autocad?

Thank you for your feedback and question.

You can follow these steps to select a layer and hide it.

1. Click the Home tab and expand the Select & Search panel.

2. Click the Selection Resolution drop-down, and select Layer.

3. Select an item in view model, then the layer will be selected. You can hide it.

In addition, you can see the layer in Selection Tree and see the detail property in Properties palette.

Hope this helps.

Please let me know if you have any follow-on questions.

Thanks for the response.  I follow that, all of the geometry comes in fine, but it does not come across in the layers that it should.  For example, the operational envelope geometry will show fine.  However, it is a part of the equipment model layer in Navisworks now.  Where in Autocad it exists in its own layer, i.e. there is a layer for the equipment, called Eqpt, and a layer for the operational envelope, called Op_env.  Also, the same with the maintenance envelopes.  These layers are all unlocked, unhidden, and unfrozen.  There are no missing OE's described in the scene statistics either.  It is very time consuming to hide all of the envelopes by object, where we should be able to select by layer and hide them.  Maybe we're missing a plug-in on the Autocad side?
