I have previously installed NW14 with one network serial number assigned to it.
I then tried to unistall and re-install to change the serial number but it still picks up the original serial number.
Is there another way to change the serial number without going into the registry after uninstalling?
with a network license it doesn't matter what serial number is being used
it grabs whats available in the license file you can't force it to grab a specific serial number

It does when we have two seprate serial numbers on the same license file. Autodesk cannot merge them into one because of the dates of purchase.
it will only grab the license that was generated last
you will need to generate both of them on the same day and combine them

That is correct but Autodesk won't generate them/combine them into one serial number because of the date of purchase (4months difference)
SO....... we currently have 1 license file with a 2 seperate serial numbers on it. One with 17 licenses and the other with 2. I want to remove one machine from the 17 group and add it to the 2 group but the machine keeps picking up the 17 licensed serial number.
I don't have an issue with the license file just swaping from one serial number to the other on a machine
so i am guessing the 17 seat serial number was generated after the 2 seat serial number
if thats the case the issue is with the license file

Actually no the 2 seat was generated after as it was a further 2 license purchase to add to the 17 we already had.
On the license file the 2 is ordered before the 17 but that doesn't make a difference if the serial numbers are not the same.
I go back to my original question, why when I unistall and then re-install with a different serial number does it keep the original one? If I did the same with an AutoCAD it works fine.
If everything is on subscription, submit a support request so this is no longer an issue. We purchased several additional licenses recently without any issues, and subscription support for licensing issues has been excellent.
As for the "working with AutoCAD", are you sure that isn't a multi-seat stand-alone license serial, or one pointing to a different license server?
Agreed. I have never seen an instance where Autodesk hasn't generated a license file for you on the same date as the other. Even if it were not under Subscription anymore, you should still be able to get your license file regenerated. I'm guessing someone is new in the activations department and they do not understand what you need.
So long as the product is valid, you can get licensing for it.
