Multiple Hyperlinks with Navisworks Freedom

As part of our turnover documents, we are giving the client a Navisworks model with information on a lot of the equipment in the building.  In Manage, I have added hyperlinks to the submittals, specs, and drawings for each piece of equipment.  So, each item has 3 or more hyperlinks associated with it.

However, when I open the resultant NWD in freedom, I am only able to access the first hyperlink.  I can't right-click on the item and hover on "Hyperlinks" to get a list of all of the hyperlinks to select like I can in Manage.  All I can do is click on the hyperlink icon which takes me to the first hyperlink.  All of the hyperlinks show in the properties window, but they are not clickable.  In fact, the text is not even selectable.  So, I can't even copy the text and paste it into a browser.  No right-click options at all.

So, my ultimate question is:  In Freedom, is there any way to access multiple hyperlinks for an object?

The only strategy I have come across is to create an html file for every object that has links to its respective items and then set a single hyperlink in manage to this html file.  To me, this seems like an unnecessary extra step for functionality that should be included with the software.  Am I missing something, or is something this basic really excluded?

I'm not aware of many programs that actually do support multiple hyperlinks on a single object.  If you don't want to create an "index file" HTML, you might have to create dummy placeholder objects in the model to attach hyperlinks to (FWIW, I've been considering adding cameras with links to the actual site cameras...).

The frustrating part is that Navisworks does support multiple hyperlinks.  If I open the NWD or NWF in Navisworks Manage all I have to do is right-click on the object and all of the hyperlinks are available under a "hyperlinks" flyout.  They have removed this functionality from freedom.

Freedom shows the hyperlinks in the properties window.  You just can't do anything with them, not even copying the text.

Hi dustinfike,

When adding hyperlinks, you are able to specify an attachment point.  If you don’t specify one, by default, the hyperlinks will be placed in the center of the element, on top of one another, and you’ll only be able to select the one that is set to the default.  In Simulate or Manage, you are able to right-click the link and select Edit Link, select the desired link from the list, and click the follow button to open the URL.  But in Freedom, you can’t edit files, so the Edit Link option is grayed out.

Please try the following:

1. Open your NWD in Simulate or Manage

2. Right click the link you have an issue with and select Edit Link

3. In the list, for those that do not have attachment points listed, select those links, click the edit, and add attachment points one by one.

So long as all of the links have attachment points, they won’t overlap, and you’ll be able to click the individual links attached to the element to go to their specified URL.

If this resolves the issue, please let us know if this resolves the issue by marking the post as solved.

I will give that a try and see how it works.

However, accessing the hyperlinks in Manage is even easier than you state.  When you right-click an object, there is no need to go into the "Edit Hyperlinks" dialogue.  All of the hyperlinks are listed in the right click menu.  (See attached image.)  You can just select the hyperlink and it takes you right to the linked file.  It seems to me this ability should be added to future versions of freedom as it does not require any editing of the file, just quick access to what is already there.

Adding hyperlink attachments 1 by 1? I am going to be doing this but was planning on hyperlinking documents to sets/or layers, but if i were to require 3 documents be linked to a certain light fixture I would have to manually place the attachement points 3 times for every single light fixture that could easly be over a thousand links youd have to create? Has there been any update on an easier or more efficient way to do this?

You could use Navistools to addd the links and then view multiple links as properties and follow links automatically from Freedom

Thanks

Thanks,John I will look into the product, however this is something that Navisworks should be able to do considering that  integrating product data is what it is sold as being able to do.
