Cannot override color or transparency in imported Sketchup model

I have a site model (really just a flat plane with sections defined for the site demo) that I created in Sketchup and imported into Navisworks 2013.  For whatever reason I cannot seem to override the color or transpacency of the plane, and even if I go back to Navisworks and change the colors and re-import it still comes in as a giant white sheet.  Any suggestions?  I really need to show each demo section as a slightly different shade of one color.

Are you using the full-rendered mode?  This will use the assigned materials and lighting values, which override any of your color and transparency overrides.
