I am now a retired architect, who had his own practice, but have been involved with writing code for AutoCAD since Rel9, as well as chairing the UK  BS1192 Part5 Layering Group.

I am writing a large management application in VB.NET.

I have coded about 90%,and debugged 50%.

Still much interesting stuff to do.

My problem:

I can see that maintenance, technical support, new technologies will become more uncertain in the future as I get older, and will prevent potential clients from buying the product.

I also would like to share the adventure with others.

Have you contacten Autodesk about this. As you might know they bought similar products in the past like Genius.

Little point in contacting Autodesk.

In any case this is coming to the probelm from a very different perspective.

im also a retired architect  but not a coder ..

Retiring  was like having my hands chopped off;  all i need is access to CAD for my own entertainment and my own fun designs ,,, but i  can't afford   autocad LT let alone AUTOCAD ,  so I cannot draw anything now.   Ive done a little old school drawing on paper but really .. why can a really affordable version not be available for people with no intention for commercial use ... I just want to draw,  having drifted from paper to CAD over my working life .. now im just  retired and useless

Any info?

cheers

Try FreeCAD, it is intuitive, with constraints mechanism, 3d, also try librecad. Until you get some money for autocad

@wattie48

You may register an account on: https://feedback.autodesk.com/enter/

The feedback program allows you to test new AutoCAD versions, without fee.

I think they need experienced CAD user/tester like you.
