Use NURBS to Create a Rectangle with Rounded Corners

I need to create a shape just like a spline rectangle with rounded corners using NURBS.

I tried to convert a simple rectangle spline to NURBS, which works, but each side and curved corner is a separate curve. Trying to extrude the shape does not work since it is not a closed NURBS curve.

Can anyone help me create a rounded corner rectangle spline, and convert it to a closed NURBS curve?

Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure what the advantage is in making the rectangle a single nurbs curve.  You could just use the all curves selection mode do work with the whole or the single curve mode for each.  That said:

Create rectangle with rounded corners, right click, convert to Nurbs

On the modifier panel, select the curve node.

Select all the curve parts and then join them with the join button, two curves at a time, working out symmetrically and from opposite sides together.
