How to make a group of verts or faces planar to another planar face?

Hi.. i am wondering if this is possible in Maya

I want to select a group of verts... translate them so they are all planar, essentially z-fight to another face.

i know about retain component spacing, snapping to xyz in grid.. but I want to be able to align to a face...

not sure if this makes any sense but hopefully someone understands.

Thanks!

Select the face you want to use to define the plane, open the scale tool, click on set to face, then select the vertices you want to make planar and scale to 0 in X.

I understand what you are trying to do... but in the scale tool "click on set to face" is not feature not available in Maya 2009? Thanks.
