Creating a million or so non-overlapping triangles?

I am not a regular Maya user though I used it several years ago.

I need to create about a million or so polygons. These need to be all non-overlapping. Conceptually, I can create a plane with 1000 x 1000 divisions and pull the triangles apart from each other. so that we have a million triangles with closely placed but non-overlapping vertices.

If you have an idea of how to do this either with the script or interactively in reasonable time, I would appreciate knowing it - thank you for your time, in advance!

Cheers; 'best,

shankar

Select all edges; [Edit Mesh] -> [Detach Components].
[Mesh] ->[Separate].

I hope this is what You are looking for.

step 1: make a plane or some type of polygon.
step 2: triangulate the plane (if you want triangles instead of quads)
step 3: go to Edit Mesh Pulldown and uncheck Keep Faces Together
step 4: select the polygon - go to Mesh Pulldown - Extract - Option - check the separate option - set desired offset (maybe .1 for example)
This should do the trick.......
