Chamfer corners aren't perfectly round

Hi,

I'm making a pretty easy model where one side of a box needs to be round.

When I chamfer the two corner edges it obviously becomes a round end.

But the problem is that this round end isn't the shape of a perfect circel.
I included a picture to show my problem.
The box has a width of 30mm and the chamfer amount is 15mm.
I've put a cylinder on top of it with a radius of 15 to show that the chamfer isn't perfectly round.

I hope my problem is clear and I hope someone knows the solution to this problem.

o btw, It's not about the amount of segments of the chamfer but about the shape/radius the chamfer goes. And it's not block at any point by nasty vertices.

You'll have trouble with Chamfers generally, let alone a case like that. I wouldn't even bother with them, or even a Box, for that object.
Create a Cylinder such that the upper half will become the rounded section you need. Use 2 Cap Segments. Convert it to Editable Poly. Remove the lower half. Select the Border created by removing the lower half and Extrude it down the correct amount. Cap the hole at the bottom.

Thanks for the quick reaction.

I allready did that  and it worked out fine.
But I was wondering if it was possible for more complex models in the future?

Probably not, until they implement a better "Chamfer" function - "Catmull-Clark" is the one most often mentioned around here.

ok thank you.

I just read that Catmull-Clark subdivion is licensed in Maya.
That's probably the reason it's not in 3ds Max. A shame..

But still thanks for you answers.

As Steve mentioned the chamer tool is not perfect however there are ways to make it work properly.

You're original image does not clearly show a before/after the chamfering, if you're able to provide another screenshot or even the MAX file itself I/we could assist you further. Or if you're not fussed that's fine too.
