Alternative to 3DSMax

I am looking for an alternative to 3DS Max for architectural previs.
Any suggestions?

ArchiCAD is popular with the pro community, as it's more "CAD-like" than Max (working with floor plans etc. in a true CAD toolset) but can still render out photorealistic scenes.

I use max for architectural work, but I have also been trying to teach myself Rhino 4.0. I know some architectural offices are beginning to use this it now. You can actually download a time unlimited copy to try out from their website (you are limited to 25 saves though).

Seems like a great program to me.

GMax is Max 4 considerably "cut down", much of the "good stuff" in current versions of Max simply does not exist in GMax. That said, it's a great way to learn the basics for free, but don't expect too much from it.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).
