win2k server

We recently upgraded our server. The operating system changed from Novell to
Win2k Server. Now, in MDT and A2k, we ocassionally get a problem saving
drawings. MDT will say that the file has been opened and saved by another
user. You have to save your file as another file name. Is this a known
issue? Is there a fix? We have had this happen six times in the past two
days. For some reason, I suspect it will get worse.

Also, we used to rely on Novell's salvage utility to get old backup files
that had been overwritten. It came in really handy when a MDT file would
become corrupt for some unknown reason. Is there a similar utility that can
be purchased for Win2k Server?

We had that problem with our Linux/Samba system. The system Admin had
the system closing open files after x timeout to save processor
resources. With a low a utilization as we have AND dual 1 Ghz
processors it was a moot point. I had him change the timeout to
something reasonable and the problem went away.

Kev,

Most likely the server is dropping the users connection and then
re-establishing it moments later. As a result, the files become
read-only (look at the top bar). This is quite common when network
issues exist. To put it mildly, the problem is in the network
somewhere.
