title block help required

I am trying to create a new title block based on the existing
"BSI_TITLEB.DWG" file.
When the existing file is inserted into a drawing I am shown a dialog box
for the attributes asking for the drawing number, title, drawing activity
and so on. When the "BSI_TITLEB.DWG" file is opened the attribute for
drawing activity is shown as "GEN-TITLE-DACT{16.1}" and by using DDEDIT on
this I am shown that this is the tag and the prompt is "(genmsg "gentitis"
75)". I thought that the prompt would read "DRAWING ACTIVITY". Could someone
please tell me how to change this or create new attributes.

GENTITIS refers to a file, GENTITIS.MLD located in the
\MDT5\ACADM\TRANSLATOR Directory ( FOLDER, sorry really old DOS wonk here)
this is a text file and it has a listing of the various items. as in your
example 75 refers to the line lable #75 and there you do see Drawing
Activity as the prompt for the dialog box you refer to.

You can add lines and modify existing lines for custom prompts here, or you
can, using the PROPERTIES command, change the prompt to something else.

Remember to save your custom title block under it's own file name, and to
add your custom title block to your AMOPTIONS title block setting.

Hope that this helps

Ohh yeah...... the {16.1}.....I had fun getting info on that..... it
describes the maximum width of the text string based on the text hight. for
example, if you have 5mm text hight, and the text needs to fit into a 100mm
space the number would be {20.0} or 100/5. When the text string would
normally excede this 100mm lenght, it will compress the text width to fit
into the 100mm space.

I messed with the MLD file this past weekend...I'd modify a prompt to a
custom prompt but it wouldn't show up when I inserted my title
block???...Were you able to get any changes to the MLD file to show???

Yes I was able to bet my own suctom prompt to show up. When you add a line,
you need to include a line number at the start of the line.
ie 97 "Material Finish" like i used in the gentitis.mld....... make sure
you save the MLD. file. when you adjust the properties of the attibute
(where it says "(genmsg "gentitis" 75)". or something similar) make sure you
change the line reference number to the number of the line you added. It
should display the appropriate prompt the next time you load a new title
block. Remember, if you try to delete the title block and insert the new
version, ACAD will tend to ignore a duplicate definition of the block, so
after you delete, make sure that you purge out the previous version of the
title block from the drawing. If you are using Multi Language Support for
your drawings, ensure that the prompt is placed in the appropriate order in
the list ( the order it shown in the very first line of the MLD file). If
you wish, you can even creat you own MLD file, as long as you save it inthe
same folder as the others and it follows the same conventions. in this case
your promt line would be "(genmsg "My_file" 75)". or something similar..
experiment and have fun

i didn;t mention it, because it seemed logical, but in case it wasn't
obvious, in the example i used 75 was the line number and if i wanted to use
the new prompt, it would ahve been 97
