Zooming IN, shows jagged edges, why?

I have my "viewres" set to 15000, when zoomed out arcs/circles look great,
nice and smooth. But when I zoom in
close, all arcs/circles (surfaces) get jagged and I must "regen" to get
smooth lines again. Why is this, is it a bug
or something I've missed, don't recall having this problem in MDT5? Someone
please help me.

Walter,

Since a regen smooths everything up, I'm assuming you are talking about 2d
wireframe mode and don't think there have been any changes to this sort of
stuff with mdt6. I routinely run with facetres set to 8 and viewres set to
20000.

One off the wall suggestion is to check the variable REGENAUTO and make sure
it's on.

Thanks for the tip on REGENAUTO. How about when in shade mode? It seems
VIEWRES & FACETRES are having no effect on the smoothness of arcs & circles
in shade mode. The setting for quantity of contour lines per surface is not
helping either (although I didn't expect it to.)

What, if anything, have I missed?

Thanks,
Graeme

Control in shaded modes is sort of like magic to me, things happen and I
don't know why....

I think a lot of it is tied to video card capabilities.

You might try increasing splinesegs (Options > Display - Segments in a
polyline curve), though I can't remember if this helped or not. Also regen
and regenall don't do a regeneration of the view in shaded modes. There are
a few ways to cause a regen. The one I use (and, therefore, remember) is to
do an amupdate - all.

Jeff,
I'm not talking about 2d, this is 3D part (not a solid) but "surface" model.
When I'm zoomed out, everything looks pretty smooth, but if I zoom in tight
on say a SURFACE fillet, it looks "jagged" (like the viewres is set low),
but
once I do a regen when zoomed in, everything looks good.

The REGENAUTO is on, I did try changing the facetres to 8 or so (did not
help)
I did just today install the service pak 1, no help, same thing. I can only
assume
this is a bug, and once again AutoCAD has taken 1 step forward and 2 steps
back.
As I have found other problems with MDT6 that I did not have with MDT5.

Any guesses would be nice.
Walter

Walter,
I have seen the same behavior where no setting of viewres or facetres will
"smooth" out the model. The only thing that seems to help is to save the
file, exit, and come back in. I've not seen it enough times to figure out if
there might be some way to fix it, and it doesn't happen all the time. It's
a little irritating, but I'm not sure its not just me doing something wrong.
I can't post a file either because the minute I go out of the offending file
and come back in it's fixed, and I can't seem to recreate the steps it took
to get that way.

Just noticed it while in paperspace. Regening didn't clear it up. But,
flipping between Model space and paperspace did.
