Matchprop and dim tolerences

In MDT4, MATCHPROP would copy all tolerence settings from one dim to
another. In 5 it copies the upper and lower deviation values but doesn't
affect the tolerence type or whether or not the tolerence is displayed.
Is there a different way to copy tolerences between dims in version 5 or is
this a problem with my setup maybe?
(I am aware that I could use dimstyles but I would need too many different
ones to be practical)
Thanks,
Jon Crouch.

Use the good old AMDIMFORMAT (command line only) to make the tolerances.
Then use MATCHPROP from these.
I can't use MATCHPROP from Power Dim Tolerance types either.

You can make Power Dims work like regular dims. In the Power Dialog where
you specify the tolerance you can pick on the picture of the tolerance at
the bottom. This will bring up a dialog that will allow you to choose a type
of tolerance. The ones labeled with (AutoCAD) will use the standard AutoCAD
dimensions tolerance settings. The others add the tolerance as text.

You can also double click on a powerdim that is set up how you want, and use
the apply to button to copy the settings to other ones.

Dave and Kent

The question was about MATCHPROP (the format painter) and tolerances. I find
it much easier to 'Paint' from tolerances made with AMDIMFORMAT than to go
through two dialog boxes to achieve the same.

And you can't 'Paint' with any of the Power Dim tolerance types unless I'm
missing something.

Well I tried all the suggestions and I think the easiest way is a poweredit
using the '(AutoCAD)' tolerences and then using MATCHPROP.
It's a shame that tolerencing has become less streamlined in version 5. The
extra Settings dialog in Copy To and also the loss of the Preset Values
pulldown both make tolerencing unnecessarily tedious.

What am I missing then?
I am not able to use MATCHPROP on any Power Dim tolerance types, and I can't
control the color of the tolerances either. I'm stuck with yellow or green.
That is why I'm preferring AMDIMFORMAT where I can control it all.
Please advise,
Peer

Peer,
I have been following Dave's suggestion and creating AutoCAD tolerence types
using the AMPOWEREDIT dialog - PowerEdit an existing dim then go to 'Select
Tolerence Type' and use one of the two types with '(AutoCAD)' under them.
I'm pretty sure you cannot use MATCHPROP on PowerDim tolerence types.

That was my point exactly. AutoCAD tolerance types is a part of the PowerDim
tolerance types thus being unable to use MATCHPROP from them. Sorry if I
didn't explain that correctly. I'm a dane, so bear with me |8^(
Try making a toolbutton with the command: ^C^C_amdimformat and tell me if
you don't think it works better, AND you can use the Format Painter
(MATCHPROP) from these tolerances 8^))

I still don't think we're understanding each other. I am saying that you
_can_ use MATCHPROP on the '(AutoCAD)' type PowerDims.
It's hard to choose between AMPOWERDIM/EDIT and AMDIMFORMAT - I've been
using poweredit because I like to use the double-click feature as it saves
me from searching for buttons 🙂

I AM obviously missing something. There must be some setting I'm not aware
of that allows you to do this and not me. I only get the dimcolor with the
painter, not the tolerances. I too would find it better to just
double-click, make the tol's, and use the painter on the rest of the dim's
that should have the same tol's. What are the steps to achieve this?

If you make your own button, you'll know where to find it, yes?

I've made these buttons that I can't live without:

AMDIMFORMAT
AMSETUPDWG
AMNOTE
AMLEGIBLE

Peer
Here are the exact steps:

Dimension the view using AMREFDIM and/or AMPOWERDIM.
Double-click a dimension
Click 'Add Tolerence' and set the deviations
Click 'Choose Tolerence' Type and select one of the types with the label
'(AutoCAD)' written underneath.
OK, OK
MATCHPROP....

I'm sure this is exactly what you are doing already. The only thing I can
think of is the settings within the MATCHPROP command - I have everything
selected.

Good luck
Jon Crouch.

Just the dimcolors applies.

The only way I can get it right is using the 'Apply to >' button within the
Powerdim/edit dialog (works with all the tolerance types). But that is not
MATCHPROP.

Me too - I give up.

Many thanks for your efforts,

Wow, Kent

That really shed some light on the issue (8^D-)

I mistaked the two types underneath your selected tolerance type for being
AutoCAD tol. types (yellow and all) thus making me unable to use MATCHPROP.
I stand corrected and much advised. Don't know why this never crossed my
mind (8>(-)

Sorry for being so heavy minded (can you say that?).

THANKS,

Peer

P.S.: Sorry for all your trouble, Jon. I can see now why you didn't have a
clue as to what was going on here with me.

HyperCam http://www.hyperionics.com/index.html

I also use their FileBox Extender 8^)

The other program that I know of that does that, and might even be a little
better is Snagit from www.techsmith.com
