MDT 2007 SP2 and Vista 64

About to order a new XI computer and need to know if MDT 2007 SP2 will run
on Vista 64 Ultimate. I hoping to go with a 64 bit OS so I can upgrade my
ram to 8-16 gigs to get out of these out of memory errors on large
assemblies.

Hi Jason,

I believe the 2008 release was the first release with x64 support. So if
the 2007 release does run on Vista, it would do so in the 32-bit emulation
mode and it would be restricted to 2gb of virtual address space just like
your current 32-bit system. So it wouldn't matter how much ram you stuffed
into the system, only the first 2gb would be used. I hate Vista and thus
don't have any boxes with it installed here so I personally can't say
whether or not the 2007 release would run in this environment.

Thanks Mike.
I thought for sure that MDT 2007 also was available in 64 bit. Guess I was
wrong. That changes things a little. My choose now is whether to go with
MDT2008 or 2009 or stay with 2007 and my current system until I retire (in
20 years). Since it looks like Microsoft is making a big push for 64 bit
with Vista, I may have to go that direction and upgrade everything (what
other chose do I have).
Vista really hasn't been that bad for me and I find it as usable (if not
more) then XP once I found my way around it. Only had one BSOD in 8 months
and it hasn't locked up on me one time where I had to hard reboot.

New computer in with Vista 64 and after 2 days of trying (off and on), I
absolutely can't get MDT 2007 to install on this thing. I keep getting an
error 1335 which seems to indicate a bad DVD read but MDT is actually
installing off a hard disk and is the same install I used the last time I
installed MDT on my old computer. All other 32 bit programs installed
without any problems. Guess my only option now is to go to my VAR and get a
demo of MDT 2009 to give me 30 days of breathing room until I decide what to
do next, unless someone has another suggestion.

Sorry, hit send too soon. MDT 2009 requires IV2009 Installed in order to
install and run. It cannot be installed separately. MDT does not ship with
the IV2009 and cannot be installed without a valid commercial license. In
other words, no 2009 MDT demos.

That's nice of them. Guess I'll have to take 2008 then. It's funny that all
other (8) 32 bit apps installed without any problems except MDT 2007 which
is the one I need the most.

Well after fighting with it a little more and using cab files from 3 dvds I
was able to get MDT 2007 installed and running with Vista 64.
I'm still going to look at upgrade to IV/MDT 2009 and maybe even look at IV
again (since I've heard rumors that MDT may be no longer be developed, lol).
