EXPLODE problem

I switched over to MDT6 and continuing with an assembly from MDT5. The problem I am having is I have some bolts and washers constrained to each other, which are constrained to a plate. This entire section has been TWEAKed away from the main assy. I go to EXPLODE one washer which is a higher level than the bolt. The washer explodes the correct amount, but the bolt ends up back at the original location in the assembly, ignoring the tweak and the explosion factor.

Hope I explained this properly. Any ideas or anyone seen this problem? I never experienced this in 5 and I have continued to constrain in the same fashion.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Have you migrated the scene to be an MDT6
scene?  This is done by using the command, ammigratescene.

If this has been done, you could see different
behaviour between MDT5 and MDT6.  MDT5 scenes

are very sensitive to the order in which the parts
appear in the browser.  MDT6 is not as sensitive.

Or, is this a scene you created in
MDT6?

Our intent was to not force users to migrate their
scenes.  So, if you did not use this command, the

scene should look the same as it did in
MDT5.

If you would like, you can send me the assembly
(with any xrefs) and I will take a look at it.

I placed a sample file in the customer files. Play with exploding the spring washer and then the bolts. Once a bolt is exploded, explosion factors for previously exploded parts will disappear. Or, at least visually. The explode factor distance will still show up in the dialogue.

The scenes were created in MDT6. I never had this problem in 5, but still keep the order of assembly the same.

I placed a sample file in customer files, which demonstrates the same behaviour. You will have to play with EXPLODE'ing the different parts. The flat washers can't be constrained in a manner to allow EXPLODE'ing. So, I have to TWEAK them. But the problem seems to be more with the bolts. Once a bolt is exploded, something always happens to the previously exploded parts.

I'm stumped. I don't see anything I'm doing wrong.

The objects are in a subassembly. This is correct behavior in MDT 2-6.
You will have to apply a subassembly explode or tweak to to alter the
appearance. Objects outside of subassemblies behave differently.

The parts I'm having a problem with are in the top level assembly.

Well, I tried something different this morning. I saved each of the parts in my sample file as MDT6 files then attached them into a new assembly in MDT6. Constrained everything as before and makes absolutely no difference. This is really driving me crazy. I have an assembly drawing I'm trying to finish and I'm going to have to resort to TWEAKing everything. Another thought. I'm going to create new sample parts in 6 and try it again. Be right back.

OK. I found A (not THE) problem. The way I have to constrain the spring washer, apparently MDT6 doesn't handle it the same. What is different? I've been doing this in 5 with no problems. I created my own conical spring washer because PowerPack doesn't display theirs as being cupped. I need it shown properly for assembly. Anyway, since the surfaces aren't parallel, MDT won't allow me to INSERT it with another plane, so I have to MATE it to the other parts. I still don't understand why EXPLODING one set of parts has anything to do with other parts that aren't constrained to each other. I'm out of ideas.

Dave,

I've verified that this indeed is a bug.  The
flat washers should be moving with the spring washers.

Yet, when I explode the bolt in addition to
exploding the spring washer, the flat washer in one of the

cases stays flush to the plate.  Furthermore,
it isn't even the bolt that is associated to the spring/flat
washers!

I'm logging this as a defect and we will do our
best to get this fix into a service pack.
